## About EMS

**How does EMS training work?**

EMS stands for electrical muscle stimulation and works as a harmless amplifier of the body's natural nerve impulses. When we perform a movement, the brain sends a signal telling the muscle to contract — and it's these signals that are amplified during EMS training. The result is that you have to work harder to complete each movement, creating an intense full-body workout with dynamic and static exercises without weights.

**Is EMS safe?**

Yes. An impressive number of studies have confirmed that the method is completely safe. EMS training only activates skeletal muscles — the voluntary, trainable muscles in your body. Smooth muscles, the heart and other organs are not affected. Electrical muscle stimulation originally comes from rehabilitation.

**What should I keep in mind before and after training?**

It's important that you feel healthy since the training is high-intensity. Drink plenty of fluids before training. Don't train on an empty stomach — eat a light meal a couple of hours beforehand. After training, we recommend plenty of water and a proper meal within the next few hours.

**What does EMS training feel like?**

An EMS session works in four-second intervals — the impulse is on for four seconds and off for four seconds, for 20 minutes. The impulse is best described as an intense vibration and is nothing like an electric shock. Training should feel intense but not painful. Muscle soreness is common in the beginning.

**What are the advantages of EMS compared to regular training?**

The advantage lies in the rapid recruitment of fast-twitch muscle fibers that contribute to muscle growth and strength development. In traditional strength training, these are often only activated at the end of a session and at high intensity. EMS reduces the load on joints and ligaments since no external weights are used.

**Is EMS training hard work?**

Yes, EMS training can and should be challenging. Our personal trainers help you push through the session and progress toward your goals. You always decide how hard you want to train and where your limits are.

**Will I get sore?**

Most people get significant muscle soreness after their first EMS session. Soreness is often stronger when you challenge your body with something it's not used to. Two days after the session is typically when soreness peaks.

**Do I need training experience to get started?**

No. EMS training is suitable for all ages, from beginners to elite athletes. Training is always adapted to the individual's goals and abilities, both in terms of exercises and impulse intensity.

**What EMS equipment does Bionic use?**

We work exclusively with EMS equipment from market-leading miha bodytec. Their equipment combines innovative technology with high comfort and uses low-frequency impulses (85 hertz).

## Credit memberships & bundles

**I'm a beginner. What are my options to try it out?**

You can buy 1 or 3 trial sessions at half the price of a regular credit. This special offer is only available for new customers and can only be purchased once.

**What happens at the first visit?**

At your first visit, you get an introduction to EMS training and together with a personal trainer you go through a health declaration. Then you change into clothes we provide and can be offered a body analysis. After that, you train your first 20-minute EMS session.

**I want to train regularly. What are my options?**

You have two options. A credit membership is a subscription where you train up to 4, 6 or 8 times a month, at the lowest price per session. A credit bundle you buy once, the credits are valid for 12 months and you use them at your own pace. The bigger the bundle, the more you save per session.

**Can I share my credits or membership?**

Credits are personal, but you can invite a friend for a trial session using your own credits. The membership is personal and cannot be shared.

**What happens if I get sick or injured?**

It depends on what you have. Credit bundles are built for flexibility: your credits are valid for 12 months, so you can take a break and book again when your body is ready. A credit membership works like a subscription, a bit like Netflix: you pay per month whether or not you use all your sessions, and it cannot be paused. If you know you will be away for a while, the simplest option is to cancel (one calendar month's notice) and come back with credits or a new membership when you are ready. Get in touch and we will help you choose.

**Can I pause my membership?**

No. A credit membership is a subscription and runs every month, however many sessions you manage to use. If you will be away for a longer period, cancel the membership yourself in the app under Membership, with one calendar month's notice, and come back with a credit bundle or a new membership when you are ready. Credits in a bundle are valid for 12 months.

**How do I cancel my membership?**

You do it yourself in Mana, no email needed. Log in at getmana.app, go to Membership, click the three dots and choose End membership. The notice period is one calendar month and the membership stays active for the whole period, so you can keep booking sessions until the end date. No lock-in.

**Do you offer corporate or group discounts?**

Absolutely. Read more on our corporate wellness page.

## Results with EMS

**When will I see the first results?**

Most people notice visible results within a few weeks. How quickly results appear depends on the individual. For the fastest possible results, it's important to train regularly and also review your diet.

**Can I build muscle with EMS?**

Yes, absolutely. Muscle building is one of the biggest benefits of EMS training. For the best results, you need sufficiently challenging sessions, adequate recovery between sessions, and a proper diet.

**Can I lose weight with EMS?**

Yes. EMS training can speed up the process. It may take a few weeks before you see a difference on the scale because EMS can first build muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. What matters is what's happening in your body, not just the number on the scale.

**How many calories does a session burn?**

Studies have measured around 400 kcal during an EMS session (Kemmler et al. 2012), and energy expenditure stays elevated for up to three days afterwards (Teschler et al. 2018).

## Health & EMS

**When should I not train with EMS?**

Healthy people who can exercise can perform EMS training. Exceptions apply for: pacemakers or other electronic implants, neurological conditions, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer or tumors, tuberculosis. During infections, colds or pregnancy, you should wait.

**Does EMS help with back pain?**

Yes. Back problems often arise from weak muscles or muscular imbalances. EMS can build up the muscles, including deep back muscles. Our trainers help you with functional exercises that strengthen the back.

**Can EMS training damage the heart?**

The electrical impulses are harmless to the heart and organs. During EMS training, we work with low frequencies that stimulate the muscles and do not reach the heart or other internal organs.

## Women & EMS

**Is EMS suitable for recovery after pregnancy?**

Yes. You can start EMS training 6 to 8 weeks after a vaginal delivery. After a cesarean section, you should wait 3 to 6 months.

**Can you train pelvic floor with EMS?**

Yes. EMS training is an effective method for pelvic floor problems. With EMS, many muscle groups are trained simultaneously, including deeper muscles that stabilize the body.

**What should I consider during breastfeeding?**

We recommend breastfeeding before training. If preferred, the chest electrodes can easily be switched off.

**Does EMS help with cellulite?**

Yes. With EMS, many muscles are trained simultaneously and intensively. The result can be reduced body fat, increased muscle mass, firmer connective tissue and improved metabolism.
